Swedish cult popstar Robyn has released her ninth album, "Sexistential," her first new material in eight years. The album, a blend of "sex" and "existential," features nine tracks of shimmering synths and ascendant choruses. It explores themes of freedom, single motherhood, love, and lust, often within the same song.
The album arrives following the end of a long-term relationship, with heartbreak subtly woven through upbeat electronic production. Collaborations include longtime partner Klas Åhlund and pop mastermind Max Martin, with whom Robyn worked on "Talk To Me" and "Into the Sun."
"Sexistential" also revisits earlier work, including a new version of her 2002 track "Blow My Mind." The album’s sound, while different from her iconic hit "Dancing on My Own," maintains Robyn's signature propulsion and explores a different kind of sensuality.
Robyn herself notes her continued enjoyment in her music, stating, "I'm still having fun." The album is a bright collection that highlights her skillsets and positions her as a progenitor for modern pop artists.
