Brass Knuckle Films, an action movie label co-founded by Robert Rodriguez and Alexis Garcia, has announced its inaugural five-project slate. Backed by over 2,000 fan investors, the company has successfully raised $2 million since its launch last year.
The slate features three original films from Robert Rodriguez, including "Smooth Operators," which he will direct, and "Future Proof," a character-driven action thriller. Rodriguez is also developing an untitled futuristic action film, described as his take on "Escape from New York."
Two additional projects, "Breach of Trust" and "Lucky Bastards," were selected from Brass Knuckle Films' "Best Idea Wins" contest. This initiative attracted nearly 800 submissions from the company's 2,184 investors, demonstrating significant fan engagement.
Garcia emphasized the company's focus on broad audience appeal, seeking action films that resonate widely. Rodriguez highlighted the flexibility of projects like "Future Proof," noting its potential for immediate production due to its character-driven nature and independence from big stars.
The initial $2 million capital was intended for four to five projects, but Rodriguez now anticipates funding ten to twelve. He also detailed the "Best Idea Wins" contest's unique development process, where investor-writers collaborate with professionals to understand story evolution.
Additionally, Brass Knuckle Films is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Rodriguez's film "From Dusk Till Dawn" at a South by Southwest event, where Rodriguez will perform with his band, Chingon.
