BAFTA-winning actor Robert Carlyle will star as Detective Constable Shaun Massie in the seventh series of Jed Mercurio's acclaimed BBC crime drama, "Line of Duty." Carlyle, known for "Trainspotting" and "The Full Monty," takes on the role of a Specialist Rifle Officer with Tactical Operations Unit 7. His casting marks the first new addition to the series leads, following a tradition of distinguished guest stars.
Filming for the new series is set to begin this spring, with the show expected to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2025. The plot will see the central anticorruption unit, AC-12, disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, facing their most sensitive case yet amid a difficult climate for such work.
Carlyle expressed his excitement, noting the excellent scripts and maintaining the show's expected quality. Creator Jed Mercurio praised Carlyle's ability to bring mesmerising power to his roles, promising suspense for viewers. The series is being produced by World Productions and will film in Belfast.
