The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) is hosting "RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me," an exhibition co-curated by BTS member RM. This significant museum show, opening October 3 and running until February 7, 2027, marks the first time 142 pieces from RM's personal art collection are publicly displayed. The exhibition brings together nearly 200 works, including 36 from SFMOMA's collection, by Korean and international artists across various mediums.
The exhibition deliberately mixes artists from different eras and cultures, fostering a dialogue rather than presenting a linear historical narrative. SFMOMA co-curator Hyoeun Kim emphasized that the focus is on "good artists" globally, not solely Korean art. RM's personal involvement extends beyond collecting; he has actively promoted Korean art through donations and ambassadorships.
A standout section, "I Don't Know Why, But I Like It," features a deeply personal arrangement of diverse artworks, including a Pikachu animation cel. RM uses this inclusion to reflect on fame, identity, and isolation, noting the character's stillness mirrors his own need for pause amidst constant motion.
The exhibition aims to serve as a bridge, connecting RM's global fanbase with a broader appreciation of art. It encourages visitors to engage with the works based on their own reactions, fostering personal connections to art and overlooked aspects of life, transcending the usual glitz of celebrity.
