Riverdale Star's Romantic Comedy Brings the Heat with Intimacy Coordinator

In the new romantic comedy Maintenance Required, which premiered on Prime Video on October 6, 2025, Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch and actor Jacob Scipio bring the heat to the screen. However, the actors reveal that bringing an intimate scene to life is a more technical process than it may appear.

Scipio, 32, explains that the production utilized an intimacy coordinator to help choreograph the intimate moments, ensuring everyone felt safe and comfortable. He notes that while the scenes may look "hot and sexy" on screen, the reality of filming them can be less glamorous, especially by the 15th take.

Petsch, who not only stars in the film but also serves as an executive producer, brings her real-life passion and entrepreneurial spirit to the role of Charlie, a mechanic trying to save her all-female-run shop. Scipio praises Petsch's performance, saying her "fingerprints are all over this" project.

Maintenance Required has drawn comparisons to the iconic 1998 romantic comedy You've Got Mail, which also centers around two business rivals who unknowingly form a connection through an anonymous online exchange. Scipio embraces the comparison, noting that the film is part of a long tradition of stories exploring this premise.

As a self-proclaimed "hopeless romantic," Scipio was eager to take on the role of Beau, the every-man character who risks it all for love. He hopes the film will inspire audiences and remind them that "there's love out there, even in the unexpected places."
