A new exhibition in Gloucester is highlighting the geography and communities along Britain's longest river, the River Severn. The display at the National Waterways Museum runs until April 14 and features a photography exhibition and a model boat trail.
The photography exhibition includes almost 300 images capturing the Severn's 220-mile course from its source in the Welsh Cambrian mountains to its mouth in the Bristol Channel. These images provide a snapshot of the river and its communities.
A model boat trail, beginning February 14, will showcase the waterway's traffic. Seven boat models, ranging from narrow boats to a Clyde Puffer, will guide visitors on an imaginary journey from Bridgnorth to Oldbury-on-Severn.
The exhibition aims to cover all aspects of life connected to the Severn, including towns, villages, industries, and wildlife. The photographs contrast bustling scenes with tranquil oases, presenting history and modernity side-by-side.
