Rio Boosts Film Funding to $3M for Global Co-Productions

RioFilme, the film-TV agency of Rio de Janeiro City, is launching a $3 million incentive fund to attract international co-production projects. The initiative aims to secure Rio's position as a leading global production hub and explore new markets. Up to four fiction and animated feature film projects involving Rio-based companies are eligible to apply, provided they adhere to Brazilian regulations.

This funding is a key component of an ambitious plan to bolster Rio's standing in the international film and TV industry. The city has already streamlined its film commission and implemented incentives, leading to a notable increase in hosted international productions. RioFilme is now prioritizing relationships with China, India, and Russia, as well as exploring a coproduction agreement with China.

RioFilme is also actively pursuing partnerships, including discussions with China's Hengdian Group to model Rio's Creative District after Hengdian World Studios. Agreements are also in place with Moscow Film Cluster, and discussions are underway for a coproduction treaty with Russia. Additionally, RioFilme is exploring financing opportunities for dubbing and licensing content with India.
