The ITV police drama Ridley, starring Adrian Dunbar, has been cancelled and will not return for a third series. The show, created by Paul Matthew Thompson, debuted in 2022 and ran for two seasons. It featured Adrian Dunbar as DI Ridley, a widowed homicide officer who, after an unwilling redundancy and mental breakdown, aided his former protégée, Acting DI Carol Farman, with complex murder investigations.
Ridley also showcased Dunbar's talents as a pianist and singer in a jazz club he co-owned, with each episode concluding with a musical performance. The series explored intricate cases, including a jewelry heist that escalated into a murder investigation. Dunbar had expressed enthusiasm for continuing the show, noting its strong performance in America and co-financing interest from PBS.
Meanwhile, Adrian Dunbar is set to reprise his role as Superintendent Ted Hastings in the seventh series of Jed Mercurio's acclaimed crime thriller, Line of Duty. This new series, commencing filming in Belfast in spring, will see AC-12 reformed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards. Dunbar will reunite with co-stars Martin Compston and Vicky McClure.
