20 Oct
Summary
- Ricky Gervais' £6 million home renovation plans halted by local council
- Ecology experts demand bee bricks, hedgehog house, and no pond in design
- Gervais also required to obtain bat license and build new bat loft

As of October 20th, 2025, renowned British comedian Ricky Gervais' plans to construct a luxurious new home on the banks of the River Thames have hit a major roadblock. Ecology experts from Gervais' local council are now demanding that the 64-year-old comedian incorporate several wildlife-friendly features into his home renovation designs.
The council's ecology team has stated that Gervais' current plans do not meet the required biodiversity net gain of at least 10%. This means the new development must leave the natural habitat in a better state than it is currently. To achieve this, the council is insisting that Gervais include two bee bricks, one hedgehog house, and an integral bird box in his plans. Additionally, the council has banned Gervais from having a pond as part of the biodiversity net gain.
