In November 2025, acclaimed actor Richard Gere opened up about his family's move to Spain late last year. While Gere, his wife Alejandra Silva, and their children have settled well into their new life in Spain, the 76-year-old actor admits he misses the "energy" of New York City the most.
Gere, who was in New York City earlier this week to attend an event, told PEOPLE that the move to Spain has overall been a positive one for his family. He praised the Spanish culture, describing it as a "very happy place" with "very warm and very open" people who are "a lot less stressed" compared to the United States.
The actor also highlighted the benefits of being closer to his wife's family and friends in Spain. "For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture," Gere said, adding that his wife is "so happy" in their new home.
Despite his fondness for Spain, Gere acknowledged that he will continue to travel back and forth between the two countries, as the family still maintains a home in New York.
