Grant's early departure from the show has been followed by his involvement in a fundraising event for Longfield Hospice. This charity was instrumental in supporting Grant's family following the tragic death of his wife, Joan Washington, from cancer in 2021. The hospice enabled her wish to pass away at home, surrounded by loved ones.

Speaking at an event where he was sculpted live for charity, Grant shared his late wife's enduring message to him and their daughter: to find a "pocket full of happiness" each day. He acknowledged that this perspective has profoundly influenced their lives.
