Summary

- Hollywood star Rhys Ifans backs the CellB youth project.
- Footage includes iconic bands like Catatonia and Super Furry Animals.

Rare footage capturing the essence of 1990s Welsh youth culture, known as the "Cool Cymru" era, will be presented at the British Film Institute's Rip It Up festival. This significant event, taking place on May 3rd at London's Southbank Centre, is supported by actor Rhys Ifans and the CellB youth programme.
The "priceless" collection includes films from bands such as Ffa Coffi Pawb, Catatonia, and Super Furry Animals. The project, titled Video Hud: Have You Seen Your Culture Baby, Standing in the Shadows?, celebrates the 10th anniversary of CellB, an organization in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd.
Rhys Ifans, who began his career as the singer for Super Furry Animals before his acting breakthrough, will join young participants from CellB for a question-and-answer session during the screening. The initiative delves into Welsh youth identity through film, music, and shared experiences. The footage was originally captured by the late record producer Emyr Glyn Williams, a co-founder of Ankst records, who passed away in January 2024 at the age of 57.
