At the Red Lorry Film Festival 2026, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma spoke about his 2003 film 'Bhoot.' He revealed that Urmila Matondkar's casting was inspired by a memorable expression she gave in the song 'Haay Rama' from 'Rangeela.'
Varma highlighted the critical importance of casting, stating that actors are responsible for 80% of the impact in horror films. He explained that an actor's fear on screen translates to the audience's fear, with sound and music contributing the remaining 20% to enhance performances.
When asked about alternate casting for 'Bhoot,' Varma initially said Urmila was his only choice. However, he later suggested that Kangana Ranaut might be able to do justice to the role today. He also confirmed that his upcoming horror-comedy, 'Police Station Mein Bhoot,' featuring Manoj Bajpayee and Genelia Deshmukh, is scheduled for a May 2026 release.
