Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2: Handheld Hero, Docked Dud?

Summary
- Switch 2 version offers day-one portable play, a rare feat.
- Visuals compromise, especially noticeable in docked mode.
- Frame rate struggles in action-heavy segments, particularly as Leon.

Capcom has launched Resident Evil Requiem on the Nintendo Switch 2 on day one, offering a commendable portable experience. Despite some visual compromises, the game delivers the complete Requiem experience, particularly shining in handheld mode.
The Switch 2 version targets a 1080p resolution, which appears sharper on its 7.9-inch screen than on a 4K television. However, visual fidelity suffers, with more jagged edges and less defined assets compared to the PC version. Ray tracing and detailed reflections are notably absent, and character models in cutscenes show a significant hit.
Indoor environments generally hold up well, presenting some of the port's strongest visuals with good lighting and mood. However, performance can be problematic, especially during action-heavy sequences. The game aims for 30 frames per second, but Leon's segments frequently drop to around 20fps, impacting gameplay severely.
While the Switch 2 port is the weakest way to play Resident Evil Requiem, especially when compared to the PC version, it is functional. Those without access to other platforms can still enjoy the complete game, though it may not be ideal for graphically demanding or action-packed moments.
