Returning to Goa, he independently released albums like 'Goan Crazy' and 'Old Goan Gold,' blending Konkani folk with pop-rock.
His national breakthrough came in 1987 with the hit song 'Jalwa.' He later gained wider recognition for tracks such as 'Hamma Hamma' and 'Pyar To Hona Hi Tha.' Fernandes was honored with the Padma Shri in 2007 and currently resides in Porto, Portugal.
