Rego B: 17-year-old channels disco king Bappi Lahiri

Seventeen-year-old Swastikk Bansall, performing under the stage name Rego B, is embarking on his music career, drawing significant inspiration from his late grandfather, the iconic Bappi Lahiri. Rego B recently released his independent single titled 'Chand' on September 21, coinciding with his 17th birthday. He is establishing his unique artistic identity while cherishing his grandfather's innovative disco music.

Rego B highlighted how Bappi Lahiri's disco anthems, such as 'Auva Auva Koi Yahan Nache,' 'Ramba Ho Ho,' and 'Jimmy Jimmy,' remain universally appealing and continue to resonate with younger audiences. He noted that these tracks were ahead of their time and still relevant today. This enduring appeal is evident as Bappi Lahiri's disco music is being featured in recent Bollywood and Telugu cinema, with 'Ramba Ho' recreated for 'Dhurandhar' and 'Koi Yahan Nache Nache' used in 'The Raja Saab.'

Reflecting on his grandfather's global reach, Rego B mentioned Bappi Lahiri's collaborations with international artists like Snoop Dogg, Lady Gaga, Elton John, and Akon, achieved long before the advent of social media. He recounted an anecdote about Bappi Lahiri meeting Michael Jackson in 1996, where Jackson expressed his admiration for 'Jimmy Jimmy,' underscoring the widespread international recognition of Lahiri's music. The song's lasting impact is further demonstrated by its ceremonial use in Russia.

As Rego B navigates his nascent career, he is releasing music that incorporates nostalgic elements, much like his debut track 'Chand.' He feels immense gratitude for his musical upbringing and connection to his grandfather's celebrated legacy, aiming to carry forward the spirit of his music.
