Opened in 1969, the Redbeck Motel in Colton, Wakefield, has announced its closure in February 2026. This iconic travel stop, renowned for its 24/7 bed and board and its famous round-the-clock breakfasts, will cease operations for the first and final time. The motel has hosted numerous celebrities, including Sir Tom Jones, The Three Degrees, Diana Ross, and Dame Shirley Bassey.
Despite significant local opposition, plans were approved late last year to demolish the Redbeck Motel. It will be replaced by a development of 90 new homes. The establishment gained further recognition through appearances on programs such as Emmerdale.
Managing Director Peter Worth discussed the history of this beloved 57-year-old establishment. The motel's closure marks the end of an era for this cherished Wakefield landmark.
