Rebecca Gayheart has shared her first statement following the February 19, 2026, death of her husband, actor Eric Dane, best known for his role in Grey's Anatomy. Dane passed away after a prolonged battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Gayheart took to Instagram Stories, posting a photo collage and expressing profound gratitude for the community's support. "You are truly holding us during this difficult time," she wrote.
Gayheart recently made her first public appearance since Dane's passing, looking visibly devastated. She shared throwback photos of the actor with their children and thanked those who donated to his GoFundMe. The couple, who met in 2003 and married in October 2004, had two daughters, Billie Beatrice and Georgia Geraldine. Despite Rebecca filing for divorce in 2018 after 14 years of marriage, they remained committed to co-parenting. Notably, Gayheart dismissed her divorce plea in March 2025, shortly after Dane revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025.
In what is believed to be his final interview with Netflix's Famous Last Words, Eric Dane spoke of his deep love for Rebecca, recalling his immediate thought upon meeting her: "I would marry her." He mentioned that her friend initially believed she would not leave her fiancé, whom she had been with since age 15, but Rebecca ultimately married Dane.
