Stause said she "did not sign up for" her life to be displayed for the world to see, and watching the breakdown of her marriage play out on television was like a "running snowball" that she couldn't control. The couple announced their separation in September 2022, and Stause filed for divorce four months later, citing "irreconcilable differences." Though Stanaland denied cheating, a 'Selling the OC' costar was reported to have attempted to kiss him the same day the couple announced their split.
To cope with the painful divorce, Stause said she started talking to herself "like someone I loved" and focused on self-care, like making sure she ate a bagel. The experience has been challenging, but Stause remains confident in the truth, stating, "That's all that matters."
