According to a report from last month, the popular reality show 'Bigg Boss 19', hosted by Salman Khan, is embroiled in a legal dispute over the alleged unauthorized use of two Bollywood songs. The music rights organization Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) has accused the show's producers, Endemol Shine India, of using the songs 'Chikni Chameli' and 'Dhat Tere Ki' without securing the necessary public performance license.
PPL India sent a legal notice to the producers on September 19th, demanding ₹2 crore in damages alongside the standard licensing fees for the songs. The notice also named the production house directors Thomas Gousset, Nicolas Chazarain, and Deepak Dhar as responsible parties. Additionally, PPL issued a cease-and-desist order to prevent further use of the songs on the show without authorization.
Neither Endemol Shine India nor the streaming platform JioHotstar, which airs 'Bigg Boss 19', have released an official response to the legal notice as of the current date. The show, known for its dramatic twists and turns, is currently in its 19th season and follows the theme of 'Gharwalon Ki Sarkaar'.
