A new docuseries, "The Real Wolf of Wall Street," is currently in production and set to premiere later this year on Paramount+. This three-part series aims to expose the true, and allegedly even darker and more debauched, story behind Jordan Belfort's Stratton Oakmont brokerage firm. The production promises exclusive interviews with insiders who have never spoken out before, alongside new footage and an astounding 15,000 previously unreleased government documents.
"The Real Wolf of Wall Street" will delve into how Belfort became the emblematic figure of 1990s excess. It will detail his fraudulent "pump and dump" penny stock scheme that defrauded investors. The series will also revisit his extreme lifestyle, characterized by drugs, women, and lavish parties, prior to his firm's collapse.
In 1999, following an investigation by securities regulators, Belfort pleaded guilty to securities fraud and money laundering. He subsequently served 22 months in federal prison. During his time serving his sentence, he became an FBI informant, providing testimony against several co-conspirators. This period of his life was later documented in his 2007 memoir, which inspired the film adaptation.
