Real Lionesses Slam 'Corrupted' TV Show History
17 Aug
Summary
- Original Lionesses feel their history was corrupted for the show.
- The TV series 'Lioness' has no basis in reality, veterans state.
- The show's creator claims inspiration, not direct adaptation.
Taylor Sheridan's television series "Lioness" has drawn criticism from the actual female soldiers who inspired it. Members of the U.S. Marine Corps' Team Lioness, formed in 2003 during the Iraq War, feel the show has significantly altered and misrepresented their experiences.
Original operatives express anger, stating the series "twisted" their history into a fictional spy narrative. They emphasize that the "Lioness" designation is an honorific and the show bears "no basis in reality." Veterans like Michelle Dallocchio describe the situation as appropriation, seeing a complex wartime history repackaged inaccurately.
While Sheridan has stated the show is "inspired by a true story" and fictionalizes political events, the veterans feel their actual contributions and lived experiences have been erased. The series, starring Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, follows a top-secret CIA task force, a premise far removed from the Marine Corps unit's combat support role.
