Summary
- Directors returned for sequel after initial departure.
- Star Samara Weaving's back injury threatened filming.
- Sisterly dynamic became core of Ready or Not 2.

Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known as Radio Silence, have returned to direct Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, set for release on March 20, 2026. Initially stepping away from the sequel, they were drawn back by producer Tripp Vinson. Their renewed involvement was sparked by an idea for a sister-centric story featuring stars Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton, inspired by their work on Abigail.
Production faced significant uncertainty ten days before filming when Samara Weaving sustained a debilitating back injury. This critical setback left the directors anxious about the film's viability, with Weaving unable to move. Fortunately, her condition improved just days before principal photography commenced, though her stunt work was notably reduced.
The core of Ready or Not 2 now revolves around the strained relationship between Grace (Weaving) and her estranged sister, Faith (Newton). This familial dynamic provides a deeper emotional journey for Grace, contrasting with the first film's focus on her desire for a chosen family. The directors aimed to explore the inverse of the original's narrative.
Radio Silence also addressed their departure from the Scream franchise, emphasizing their focus on creating original content like Abigail and Ready or Not 2. They revealed that Scream (2022) underwent a 'bake-off' between two cuts, with their director's cut ultimately being selected due to higher emotional investment from test audiences. They also considered Melissa Barrera for a role in Ready or Not 2 but opted against it to avoid oversaturation with their previous work.
Looking ahead, Radio Silence is preparing for The Mummy 4, a project they describe as a dream opportunity, focusing on the character-driven nature of the original films. They are excited to tackle the larger scale of this epic adventure while maintaining their signature approach to filmmaking.
