Filmmaker Raya Martin is poised to re-enter feature filmmaking with "Obosen," a folkloric horror thriller currently in development. The project is being brought to the Cannes Film Festival's Producer's Network by Philippines-based studio Rein Entertainment.
"Obosen" centers on a policewoman delving into disappearances within a secluded Philippine town. Her investigation leads her into a mysterious forest where local folklore, political histories, and a film shoot converge into a surreal reality. Arleen Cuevas is producing the film, which was sponsored by the Film Development Council of the Philippines for its Cannes presentation.
This collaboration signifies Martin's return to feature films after a distinguished career, including being the first Filipino director with two films at Cannes in 2009. Rein Entertainment's head of creatives, Shugo Praico, expressed excitement about Martin's artistic vision and the film's potential impact on contemporary Filipino cinema.
Rein Entertainment has also welcomed filmmaker-producer Quark Henares as a partner. Henares brings extensive experience from Amazon MGM Studios and Globe Telecom. His role at Rein will focus on development, strategic partnerships, and international market positioning, bolstering the studio's global ambitions and creative output.
