Legendary songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard has released his 20th studio album, "Reel 2 Reel 4 Real," a collection he indicates might be his final musical offering. This new record, released this month, was partially recorded in Los Angeles with Mike Campbell of The Dirty Knobs, a collaboration that thrilled Hubbard. His son, Lucas, also features on guitar. Hubbard aims for the album to capture the authentic sound of old-school roots-rock, reminiscent of early Buffalo Springfield and The Rolling Stones.
The album's tracks are observational, with "She Plays Crazy Mama" inspired by J.J. Cale's work and featuring Cale's widow, Christine Lakeland. "Cassette Mix Tape" draws from Hubbard's memories of making mixtapes in the 1970s and 80s.
