A significant Vincent van Gogh painting, unseen publicly for more than 60 years, recently garnered considerable attention in Hong Kong. The artwork, titled 'Chestnut Trees in Blossom,' was displayed there ahead of its auction this weekend in New York.
Van Gogh created this masterpiece in the French village of Auvers-sur-Oise. This was approximately two months before his death in 1890, placing its creation in the late spring of that year.
Sotheby's, the auction house handling the sale, estimates the painting will achieve a price of $180 million. If successful, this would represent the highest auction price ever recorded for an artwork by Van Gogh.
The exhibition in Hong Kong drew large crowds, highlighting the enduring global appeal of Van Gogh's work and the rarity of such a historically significant piece coming to market.
