Summary
- A rare, uncorrected proof of Harry Potter's second book is up for auction.
- The book is expected to sell for approximately £6,000 at auction.
- Such proof copies were made in limited numbers and often discarded.

A "very rare" edition of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is scheduled for auction in Nottingham. This uncorrected proof copy, owned by Anne Hartley, is expected to command a price of approximately £6,000 at Arthur Johnson and Sons auction house.
Auction house representative Keith Butler highlighted the rarity of such items, explaining that these proof copies were produced in limited numbers, around 200, for reviewers before the book's final publication. Due to their "disposable" nature at the time, especially before J.K. Rowling became a global phenomenon, any surviving examples are now considered extremely valuable and fragile.
It is believed this particular proof copy eventually found its way into a school library before being discovered on a bookshelf. The auction house valuer was reportedly astonished by the find, emphasizing the thrill of uncovering such a significant and rare piece of literary history that had been overlooked for years.
