A significant discovery has been made in Saudi Arabia with the unveiling of a rare manuscript dating back nearly a millennium. Titled "Gharib Al-Qur'an" (Rare Terms in the Qur'an), this ancient text was authored by the prominent scholar Abu Ubaidah Ma'mar ibn al-Muthanna and originates from the 4th century AH.
The manuscript, which remains unpublished, consists of 23 folios and is written in a clear Andalusian script, with surah names in Kufic script. It provides a detailed glimpse into early Qur'anic scholarship and interpretation.
The King Abdulaziz Public Library, the custodian of this find, houses a vast archive featuring over 185 rare manuscripts dedicated to Qur'anic interpretation. This collection spans centuries and includes works like "I'rab Al-Qur'an wa Ma'anih" and "Ta'wil Mushkil Al-Qur'an."
These preserved texts, categorized under exegesis, recitations, and Qur'anic sciences, are made available to support academic research. The library aims to enhance engagement with cultural heritage and deepen the study of Qur'anic sciences.
