Child star Raquel Lee has sued Disney, alleging she was raped by an ex-employee when she was 14 years old. The incident allegedly occurred during the filming of the 2001 movie "The Poof Point" while the cast was in Salt Lake City and on a flight back to California.
The lawsuit claims Disney's negligence contributed to the assault. Lee alleges a "middle-aged, male employee" groomed her, sexually harassed her, and assaulted her. She stated that Disney and the film's director encouraged her to trust this employee.
Lee's suit further contends that Disney authorized sexual harassment on set, including explicit jokes and unwanted touching. It asserts that no one intervened to stop the employee's inappropriate behavior around children.
According to the lawsuit, Lee was frequently intoxicated and unwell on set due to the alleged abuse and alcohol consumption. She claims Disney executives accused her of being "out of control" and exhibiting "demonic" behavior, subsequently canceling her role in another production.
Lee, known for "The Amanda Show" and "The Proud Family," reprised her "Proud Family" role in the 2022-2026 revival. She also discussed her experiences as a Black actor on "The Amanda Show" in the documentary "Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV."
