- The actor turned down the part due to the film's dark and unsettling tone.

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has disclosed that actor Ranveer Singh was his original preference for the lead role in the Hindi adaptation of Arjun Reddy, titled Kabir Singh. Vanga confirmed that Singh was approached first but ultimately rejected the offer, citing the film's dark subject matter as the reason for his hesitation.
Following Ranveer Singh's decision to pass on the project, Shahid Kapoor was then considered for the role. At that point, Kapoor was not viewed as a guaranteed commercial success, and his casting raised concerns among industry professionals who believed a star like Ranveer Singh would ensure higher box office returns.
Despite these concerns, Vanga remained confident in Shahid Kapoor's acting abilities. The film, Kabir Singh, went on to achieve immense commercial success, grossing nearly Rs 380 crore worldwide against a reported budget of Rs 36 crore, marking a significant career milestone for Kapoor.
