Bengaluru city police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh. The actor is accused of hurting religious sentiments by mimicking a 'Daiva' act from the acclaimed film 'Kantara'. The case was initiated following a court's approval on Wednesday for a criminal complaint filed by advocate Prashanth Methal.
The alleged incident took place in November of the previous year during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India in Goa. Ranveer Singh, while praising actor Rishab Shetty's performance, reportedly reenacted a climax sequence from 'Kantara' on stage. Rishab Shetty was present in the audience at the time of the performance.
Singh's act subsequently triggered a considerable online backlash. Many viewers found his imitation insensitive and disrespectful to cultural and religious traditions. The actor had issued an apology for his performance after facing widespread criticism on social media platforms.
