For more than two decades, a dedicated six-member makeup team has been an indispensable part of the Patthar Chhati Ramlila Committee. Under the guidance of veteran artist Hameed, this group dedicates their time each year to transforming performers into iconic mythological characters. Their expertise extends beyond the Ramlila, as they also work on various web series, theatre productions, and other projects throughout the state for the rest of the year.
Daily, around 4 pm, Hameed and his team begin their intricate work, applying makeup to 40 to 50 artistes. This year's event has seen an increased demand due to the participation of renowned actors from the entertainment industry. Hameed, who has been with the committee for 22 years, emphasizes the crucial role of makeup in making characters believable, whether for live performances, films, or digital productions.
The team, including Arshad, Dilip, Vikas, and Chandan Malviya, works collaboratively. Hameed often handles the primary characters like Lord Ram, Sita, Ravan, and Hanuman, while other members focus on supporting roles. Hours are invested to achieve perfection, ensuring that every character's distinct appearance is rendered with authenticity, thus doing justice to their roles.
