Filmmaker Ramesh Sippy, renowned for directing classics such as "Sholay," "Seeta Aur Geeta," and "Shaan," is embarking on a new project. He plans to create a contemporary adaptation of his impactful 1986 Doordarshan series, "Buniyaad," which explored the enduring narrative of Partition.
Sippy's passion for filmmaking ignited at the tender age of seven when he first visited a film set. He shared that this early exposure led him to pursue a career in cinema, even leaving college in London midway to work on his father's film sets.
His directorial debut, "Andaz," released in 1971, achieved significant success. However, it was "Sholay," released in 1975, that cemented his legacy as a master storyteller, a film that continues to be celebrated decades later.
Beyond his cinematic achievements, Sippy, now 79, is also dedicating time to writing his autobiography. Additionally, a documentary about his life and career is in development, promising insights into his professional journey and significant life moments.
Carrying forward the family's rich legacy, his son Rohan Sippy is also a director, and his grandson Zahan Kapoor, grandson of the legendary Shashi Kapoor, is an emerging actor poised for a promising future in the industry.
