- Varma states Abhishek Bachchan was initially considered for the role.
- Oberoi's father introduced Varma to the actor's photos and audition.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently offered a different perspective on the casting of his 2002 crime drama, 'Company.' Varma indicated that Vivek Oberoi's widely shared narrative about how he landed the role of Chandru is not entirely accurate.
According to Varma, Abhishek Bachchan was among the actors considered for the part before Vivek Oberoi was cast. Varma explained that Suresh Oberoi, Vivek's father, was instrumental in the casting process. Suresh Oberoi initially showed Varma photographs of his son and later arranged for him to view an audition tape, which convinced the director of Vivek's suitability.
Varma acknowledged that Vivek Oberoi did work on his look and demeanor after learning about the role. Released in 2002, 'Company' marked Vivek Oberoi's acting debut and explored the Mumbai underworld, featuring a notable cast including Ajay Devgn and Mohanlal.
