Actor Ralf Little is set to embody the character of Alec Leamas, a disillusioned British intelligence officer, in the upcoming U.K. tour of John le Carré's "The Spy Who Came in From the Cold." This theatrical production, a collaboration between The Ink Factory and Second Half Productions, signifies the inaugural stage adaptation of any le Carré novel.
The tour is scheduled to launch on March 12 at Curve Leicester and will extend through August, encompassing 21 venues nationwide. The play, penned by David Eldridge, first premiered at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2024 before transferring to London's West End. It explores themes of deception and moral compromise within the context of Cold War espionage.
Little, known for his roles in "Death in Paradise" and "The Royle Family," expressed his enthusiasm for portraying one of le Carré's celebrated characters. The production's creative team includes Max Jones for set design, Azusa Ono for lighting, and Elizabeth Purnell for sound, with Paul Englishby composing the music.
