Bedi Prioritizes Artistic Fulfillment Over TV Grind

Rakesh Bedi, known for characters like Jameel Jamali in Dhurandhar, is currently enjoying a career phase that allows him to engage with film, OTT platforms, and theatre. While he makes guest appearances in popular shows such as 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' and 'Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!', Bedi has no desire to return to the rigorous schedule of daily television. He stated that his appearances in 'Taarak Mehta' are to maintain relevance with younger audiences but he cannot commit to a 25-day-a-month schedule anymore, as he prefers the flexibility to pursue multiple creative endeavors.

Bedi emphasized that financial security and visibility are not his primary motivators. He aims to satisfy his acting passion, even if it means earning less than others. His nearly five-decade-long association with theatre has profoundly impacted his acting methodology and character development. Bedi recalled how his theatre experience allowed him to add depth to characters beyond simple descriptions, highlighting theatre's role as a space for extensive experimentation. He noted that, except for the COVID-19 pandemic, he has consistently performed on stage every month for 48 years.
