Rajpal Yadav Surrenders in Jail Over Bounced Cheque
10 Feb
Summary
- Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Delhi's Tihar Jail on February 4, 2026.
- The surrender is linked to a ₹5 crore loan default from 2010.
- Amitabh Bachchan had previously praised Yadav's directorial venture.

Actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Delhi's Tihar Jail on February 4, 2026, after his final plea for more time was rejected by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. The surrender is in connection with a cheque bounce case linked to his directorial venture, 'Ata Pata Laapata'.
The legal troubles originated in 2010 when Yadav borrowed ₹5 crore to fund the film. Following the movie's poor box-office performance, he faced financial difficulties, and several cheques issued for repayment bounced, initiating legal proceedings.
In April 2018, a magistrate's court convicted Yadav and his wife, sentencing them to six months imprisonment. Despite multiple appeals and partial repayments, including ₹75 lakh in 2025, the outstanding amount had grown significantly, reportedly close to ₹9 crore.
This period of legal battle stands in contrast to earlier support. During the music launch of 'Ata Pata Laapata', Amitabh Bachchan attended and lauded Yadav, acknowledging his perseverance in the industry. Yadav had emotionally described Bachchan as Bollywood's 'Bhishma Pitamaha'.
