Rajpal Yadav's Rs 9 Cr Debt Case: Judgment Day Looms
10 Jul
Summary
- Delhi High Court to rule on Rajpal Yadav's Rs 9 crore debt case today.
- Settlement talks failed despite court's intervention and a proposed Rs 6 crore settlement.
- Yadav cited heavy losses and prior payments, opposing the settlement proposal.

The Delhi High Court will pronounce its judgment today regarding Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav's Rs 9-crore debt case. Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma had reserved the decision on April 2, following the failure of last-minute settlement attempts. These efforts faltered despite the High Court's active involvement and suggestions for resolution.
During proceedings, settlement discussions, including a proposal for Rs 6 crore, did not lead to an agreement. Rajpal Yadav opposed the settlement, citing substantial financial losses and prior payments. The court expressed dissatisfaction with his shifting stance, noting inconsistencies in his submissions. The complainant company argued that Yadav's financial liability remained despite sentence completion.
The actor's present counsel contended that past mistakes by previous legal representatives should not penalize Yadav. He had previously paid Rs 2.5 crore towards the debt, which originated from his 2012 film 'Ata Pata Laapata.' The court had previously directed the release of Rs 1.35 crore per case from amounts deposited with the Registrar General.
