Actor Rajpal Yadav recently discussed his time in Tihar Jail with filmmaker Farah Khan. He spoke about the necessity of strict discipline while serving his sentence and reflected on learning to adapt to any circumstances. Yadav acknowledged the crucial financial and moral support he received from fellow actors and filmmakers during this difficult phase. Sonu Sood was among the first to publicly back Yadav, encouraging industry professionals to offer him work to help clear his debts.
The actor had surrendered in February of this year to serve time in connection with a Rs 9 crore debt and cheque bounce case. He was granted interim bail on February 16 after depositing Rs 1.5 crore. The case originated in 2010 when Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore for his directorial debut, 'Ata Pata Laapata.' The film's failure resulted in significant financial losses and a protracted legal battle.
A court convicted him in 2018 for cheque bouncing, sentencing him to six months in jail, a verdict upheld in 2019. After failing to settle the dues, he surrendered in February. Although granted interim bail initially, the Delhi High Court later extended relief, preventing his immediate return to custody. Yadav's recent request for a 30-day extension to arrange funds was denied, with the court reserving its decision.
Looking ahead, director Farah Khan is preparing to start a new project with Shah Rukh Khan. Meanwhile, Rajpal Yadav awaits the release of the horror-comedy 'Bhooth Bangla,' directed by Priyadarshan, scheduled for April 17.
