Hirani, who attended the event at the Merchant's Chamber of Commerce & Industry in West Bengal, along with film critic Rajeev Masand, spoke about his lifelong admiration for Ray's cinematic masterpieces. "Not a single soul in this country would not admire Ray's films," Hirani said, highlighting the enduring impact of the legendary director's oeuvre.
Satyajit Ray, who was born in Kolkata in 1921, is widely regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers of all time. His most prominent works include the acclaimed Apu Trilogy, as well as films like Jalsaghar, Charulata, and Shatranj Ke Khiladi. Ray's contributions to Indian cinema have been widely recognized, with the filmmaker receiving numerous accolades, including 32 Indian National Film Awards and an Academy Honorary Award in 1992.
Hirani's own recent film, Dunki, which stars Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has been a resounding success, grossing over 400 crore globally. The film, which explores the issue of immigration, has further cemented Hirani's status as one of the most influential directors in the Indian film industry.
