Rajinikanth's Dedication: Director's Tears Over '16 Vayathinile'

Lyricist Vairamuthu recently recounted a powerful moment from the filming of the iconic Tamil movie '16 Vayathinile.' The incident involved a challenging scene where Sridevi's character was to spit on Rajinikanth's character following an argument.

When attempts to fake the effect with soap foam proved unconvincing, Rajinikanth volunteered to be spat on realistically. Sridevi declined, prompting Rajinikanth to tell director Bharathiraja, "The scene should look real. You do it." Bharathiraja eventually complied, spitting on Rajinikanth to achieve the desired realism.

Following the successful shot, Bharathiraja was deeply moved by Rajinikanth's commitment. The director embraced the actor, wiped his face, and wept, underscoring the profound dedication involved in creating memorable cinema.

Vairamuthu noted that K. Bhagyaraj, then an assistant director, witnessed the entire event. This memory from a golden era of Tamil cinema was documented for Bhagyaraj's autobiography and serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of filmmakers.
