Rajinikanth Reunites with Director Nelson for Jailer 2, Bollywood Stars Join the Cast

In October 2025, it was announced that Rajinikanth will be returning to the big screen in Jailer 2, a sequel to the 2023 action comedy hit. The film will once again be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who collaborated with the superstar on the first installment.

According to reports, Jailer 2 will feature two prominent Bollywood actors in key roles. Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty is set to play the primary antagonist, while acclaimed actress Vidya Balan is likely to portray the role of Mithun's daughter, though her character details are still under wraps.

The first Jailer film, released in August 2023, was a massive success, earning an impressive 89% score on the Popcorn Meter and collecting 345 crores net at the domestic box office. It featured cameos from several top stars across different film industries, and the sequel is expected to follow a similar trend.

Jailer 2 is currently in production, with Rajinikanth once again taking on the lead role of a retired jailer who is forced to return to action when his police officer son goes missing.
