Director SS Rajamouli has revealed that his forthcoming adventure action drama, 'Varanasi,' starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, will be significantly larger in scale than his acclaimed film 'RRR.' Speaking in Brazil, Rajamouli stated that 'Varanasi' is five to six times bigger than 'RRR' across all dimensions.
Through enhanced preparation and detailed paperwork, Rajamouli's team managed to complete the shoot for 'Varanasi' in 275 days, saving 40 days compared to 'RRR's' 315-day shoot. This efficient approach was credited to the planning and experience gained from his previous blockbuster.
The film, reportedly budgeted between Rs 1,300-1,400 crore, is set to explore locations such as Varanasi, Africa, and Antarctica. It is expected to feature Mahesh Babu as Rudra and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Mandakini. Prithviraj Sukumaran is rumored to play the antagonist, Kumbha.
'Varanasi' is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027, filmed in IMAX and intended for a multilingual audience. This project marks Priyanka Chopra Jonas's return to Indian cinema after an eight-year hiatus.
