30 Apr
Summary
- Raja Shivaji records highest advance booking for a Marathi film.
- Film expected to make Rs 6-7 crore net on opening day in Marathi.
- Historical drama stars Riteish Deshmukh as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The Marathi film Raja Shivaji is set to make history with its box office performance even before its theatrical release on May 1st. The historical action drama has achieved the highest advance booking collection for any Marathi film to date, surpassing Rs 2.5 crore. Advance ticket sales are exceptionally strong, with over one lakh tickets already sold for the opening day alone.
Anticipated to collect between Rs 6 to 7 crore net in its Marathi version on the opening day, "Raja Shivaji" is heavily reliant on Maharashtra, which accounts for nearly 90% of its advance bookings. This performance is expected to significantly exceed the current opening-day record for Marathi cinema, which stands at Rs 4.2 crore for "Sairat".
The film, directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, chronicles the ruler's reign and battles. It features an extensive ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek Bachchan. While "Raja Shivaji" is set to break Marathi box office records, its opening figures are projected to be lower than recent Hindi historical dramas like "Chhaava" and "Tanhaji".
