Summary
- Radhika Apte defends Alia Bhatt against trolls criticizing her physique.
- Apte questions the double standard judging women's bodies in action roles.
- 'Akka' featuring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte to stream on Netflix soon.

Radhika Apte has voiced her support for Alia Bhatt after the latter faced online criticism for her action-oriented role in the film 'Alpha.' Apte questioned the prevalent double standard where female actors are scrutinized for their physique in action roles, contrasting it with male actors who often face less criticism despite being less fit. Apte highlighted that Bhatt is "bloody fit" and shouldn't be subjected to such remarks.
The disparity, Apte suggests, stems from traditional societal views that expect women to conform to certain standards of appearance and behavior. She believes this conservatism influences audience reception to content, particularly affecting women in leading roles within genres like crime thrillers. While acknowledging that audiences can be hesitant, she cited examples like Samantha Ruth Prabhu in 'The Family Man' and Kalyani Priyadarshan in 'Lokah' as signs of changing mindsets.
'Alpha,' directed by Shiv Rawail, faced criticism not only for Bhatt's portrayal of an 18-year-old at 30 but also for its storyline and dialogues, ultimately earning ₹99 crore worldwide. Meanwhile, Apte is also promoting her upcoming crime thriller 'Akka,' co-starring Keerthy Suresh. Directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, the Netflix series, set in a matriarchal kingdom, will premiere on October 30.
