Author Rachel Reid's upcoming novel, 'Unrivaled,' originally slated for a September 29, 2026 release, has been postponed to June 1, 2027. This adjustment is necessary as Reid navigates the intensifying symptoms of her early-onset Parkinson's disease, a condition she was diagnosed with in August 2023.
In a February 24, 2026 Instagram video, Reid shared that her Parkinson's has made the physical act of writing more challenging, significantly slowing her pace. Despite this personal health struggle, her 'Game Changers' series has seen recent success with the HBO Max adaptation of 'Heated Rivalry' premiering in November 2025 to acclaim and securing a second season.
'Unrivaled' will continue the compelling story of Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov as they face homophobia within professional hockey, building on previous novels in the 'Game Changers' universe. Reid is committed to delivering a high-quality book, assuring her readers that the wait will be worthwhile for both them and the characters.
Fans can still pre-order 'Unrivaled' through HarperCollins. The second season of 'Heated Rivalry' is also anticipated for a 2027 debut, aligning with the new book launch date.
