The extensive catalog of legendary producer Quincy Jones, spanning recorded music and publishing rights, has been acquired by HarbourView. This significant deal includes Jones' contributions to iconic Michael Jackson albums like 'Off The Wall,' 'Thriller,' and 'Bad.' It also encompasses his own compositions, including the famed "Soul Bossa Nova," and other influential works like George Benson's "Give Me the Night."
Beyond music, the acquisition covers ancillary rights, such as Jones' executive producer stake in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." His children emphasized his role as a cultural innovator who bridged music, film, and technology. HarbourView's CEO described the acquisition as a 'blessing,' highlighting their commitment to stewarding Jones' canon for future generations.
The deal also incorporates Jones' songwriting stake in tracks by contemporary artists, including Kanye West's "Good Life" and Tupac Shakur's "How Do U Want It," due to their sampling of his earlier works. Jones, who passed away in November 2024 at 91, was a transformative figure across 20th-century music, known for his work as a trumpeter, composer, arranger, and producer.
HarbourView and the Jones estate will collaborate on future initiatives tied to the catalog and Jones' name, image, and likeness. A tribute event is scheduled for March 13 in Los Angeles. Jones' family expressed their commitment to protecting not only his catalog but the spirit and love embedded within his timeless creations.
