Queen's Final Mercury Concert Hits Big Screen

Queen's iconic 1986 concert in Hungary, the band's last filmed performance featuring Freddie Mercury, is set for a cinematic release this fall, starting October 7th. The film, titled Queen Budapest, will be shown in over 2,000 cinemas, including select IMAX venues.

The restored 4K footage, originally shot on 35mm film, has been digitally enhanced using advanced technology. The soundtrack has also been remixed for a richer audio experience, complementing the visual upgrade.

This historic concert, performed on July 27, 1986, at Budapest's Népstadion, was attended by an estimated 80,000 fans within the stadium, with many more listening outside. The band delivered a 25-song setlist, including hits like "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," and "We Are the Champions," alongside a unique acoustic rendition of a Hungarian folk song.

Accompanying the film release, audiences can look forward to a new interview with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor. They reflect on the significance of this performance, which occurred during the band's Magic Tour. This tour concluded with their final show in the UK on August 9, 1986, preceding Mercury's passing in 1991.
