Queen's Fury Over Lilibet Name Revealed

Queen Elizabeth II reportedly expressed significant anger upon learning that her great-grandchildren, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, had named their daughter Lilibet. This revelation comes years after the 2021 announcement of the child's birth. According to author Robert Hardman's book, a staff member recalled the Queen being "as angry as I'd ever seen her" in 2021 regarding the Sussexes' claim of her blessing for the name.

Initially, a palace source informed the BBC that the Queen had not been asked for permission to use the nickname 'Lilibet'. However, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex denied this, stating the Queen was the first family member Harry called and was supportive of their hope to name their daughter in her honor. Conversely, Nicky Haslam, a friend of Queen Camilla, claimed in 2022 that Harry had informed the Queen of their intention to name their daughter after her but did not disclose the specific name, leading her to believe it would be 'Elizabeth'.

While Lilibet is unique in bearing the Queen's childhood nickname as a first name, several other great-grandchildren honor the late monarch with 'Elizabeth' as a middle name. This includes Isla Elizabeth Phillips, Lena Elizabeth Tindall, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, and Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.
