A handwritten letter from Queen Elizabeth II during her childhood is set to go under the hammer, with expected bids reaching £4,000. The one-page note, penned between 1936 and 1940 when she was between 10 and 12 years old, was discovered among a collection of letters.
Addressed to the head housemaid at Royal Lodge in Windsor, the letter contains delightful drawings of dogs, horses, and children. It also includes a tender inquiry about the welfare of the birds and goldfish, and mentions primroses the young princess had picked for the staff.
The collection was found in 2024 by William Westacott, the grandson of Princess Margaret's former playmate, Jean Dicker. His aunt, Rene Dicker, had fond memories of playing with the royal family at Royal Lodge.
